WHO Regional Workshop on Chemical Safety
General objective:
To develop a regional implementation plan for health-related aspects of chemical safety.
Specific objectives:
- To review and assess the overall status of chemical safety in the WHO South-East Asia
Region and to identify challenges, gaps, emerging issues and opportunities to meet challenges;
- To explore specific opportunities and mechanisms to strengthen and support the provision
and sharing of chemical safety information;
- To identify mechanisms and actions build networks of experts for chemical safety; and
- To elaborate specific actions to support the role of health sector in a multisectoral
approach in chemical safety as appropriate at national and regional levels.
Provisional agenda:
- Opening
- Assessing the current status of chemical safety in countries of WHO South-East Asia Region
- Enhancing the role of the health sector in the sound management of chemicals
- Implementation of regional and international chemicals priorities
- Implementation of the chemical aspects of the International Health Regulations
- Strengthening and building regional networks for chemicals safety and capacity-building
- Draft regional implementation plan for chemical safety
- Closing
Participants
Approximately 70 participants will be involved in the workshop, including about 50 senior officials participating
from the ministries of health, environment, labour, industry and agriculture, national SAICM focal points,
Heads of National Poison Centres from the Region, and other UN agencies, intergovernmental and
non-governmental organizations.

WHO Regional Workshop on Chemical Safety will take place over 3 days during 24 - 26 June 2013 at the
Chulabhorn Research Institute, Bangkok, Thailand.
